What's a domain name?
It's a name address on the internet where people can find a particular website.
How much does it cost to buy one?
There are now many registrars selling domain names, and most now have prices in
the $16 - $35 per year range. Our pricing is $12 (1 year), $22 (2 years), $32 (3 years).
Why do you have lower prices? Do you provide less service?
No. Name registration is highly automated, so service is
pretty standard. We make domain name registration a bargain because it attracts attention
to our other web services, like web hosting, secure order forms and web design. However, we make a little bit on every
name we register so anyone is welcome, even if they don't need other services.
Some places register names for up to 10 years. Why do you stop at 3 years?
We can also do up to 10 years, but knowing how fast the internet's evolving, it seems wrong to charge people for something so far
down the road. To us, 3 years makes sense, but 10 does not.
How do I find out if a name is available or not?
Simply go up to the top of this page, type the name in the box in the blue area, and click "Go".
Can I register more than one name at a time?
Sure. Click on the "Register in Bulk" link above and you can register as many as 30
domain names at one time. You'll only need to fill out the forms once.
If I own a .com domain, should I buy the .net or .org?
That's up to you, but for $12 each, you should give it serious consideration, especially since we have
free URL forwarding. The question is --- do you want
someone else out there with a website using your name, if you can prevent it for $24?
What's URL forwarding and is it really free?
That's where traffic to one address is immediately redirected (forwarded) to another address of your choice. It's
very useful because you can have several or many domain names feeding traffic to your main hosted website. And yes,
it's free for all domains we register or transfer after October 25, 2000, when it became available to us.
I was thinking of buying my kids names. Does that make sense?
Well, it probably wouldn't if it was expensive, but at $12, it's pretty easy to justify. Worldwide, if someone
else with that name takes it before you, it's gone. You can't get it back.
If I buy a name, why do I need webhosting if I design my own website?
Once your site is designed, it needs to be put on a server where it can be accessed by other people. A server
is a special computer that's connected to the internet all the time and is registered with the Registry
as part of the Domain Name System (DNS).
What's DNS all about?
Well, since we all remember websites by names like www.yahoo.com, there needs to be a system that can figure
out which server to send you to when you want to reach any www name like that. The DNS does that.
So webhosting gets my website on server that part of that DNS, right?
Exactly. The system directs people to the right server, and the server then directs them to the right website.
If I register with through your service, can I have someone else host it?
Yes. You're free to do as you wish with your domain, but keep in mind that our hosting packages start at only $4.75 per month.
If my phone number or something changes, how do I update my domain information?
Unlike many registration services, we provide each customer with their own control panel,
so you can make changes at will. You get to it by using
the "Make Changes" link near the top of the page.
Is it true that I can transfer my other existing domain names to you and save money on renewals?
Yes, that's true, and you'll immediately get your own control panel, like any new customer. However, to transfer,
you're required to pay for one year - $12, even if your current term isn't up.
Oh. Do I lose my remaining time?
No. An extra year is added to your remaining time, so if you still had 8 months until renewal,
you'd have 8 + 12 = 20 months until your next renewal. Nothing is lost.
Is there any special reason why I should transfer right away?
Yes. We feel there's a very strong reason why it's in your best interest to transfer immediately. We strongly
suggest that you click to our Transfer/Renew page and read through the
information very carefully. If you don't move soon, you may be stuck.
Thank You for using SimpleURL for your domain services.
